Padsite Redevelopment Project
Willows Shopping Centre is proud to announce the commencement of demolition works of the padsite building on the corner of Thuringowa Drive and Hervey Range Road, marking an important milestone in the centre’s ongoing evolution.
The freestanding precinct previously served the Townsville community for over four decades, offering convenient access to financial services including ANZ, Bank of Queensland, NAB, alongside Income Tax Professionals and the Willows Mini Mart. This redevelopment project will repurpose the prominent corner delivering a new offer for Willows shoppers and the broader community.
The padsite redevelopment was identified 5 years ago and is a priority for the centre’s long-term strategy plan. For the past 10 years, Willows has continuously evolved the retail offer and upgraded centre amenities including an $80m redevelopment, solar car park project, Food Court precinct upgrade, Southern Entrance upgrade, the introduction of a kids play space and securing the first Aldi supermarket north of South-East Queensland.
Enabling works have already commenced, with heavy equipment scheduled to arrive late April, including a 20-tonne excavator. The demolition will be carried out by Industrial Demolition Services, supported by up to 10 local sub-contractors on site. Material recycling will be prioritised throughout the project, with approximately 1,000 tonnes of concreate to be recycled locally.
The demolition is currently scheduled to be completed by mid-June 2026. Shoppers will continue to be able to access the centre’s carpark throughout the project, and signage will be in place to assist while the works are conducted.
